Bewerbung & Auswahlverfahren
Die Ausstellungsreihe Update Cologne widmet sich insbesondere Kölner Künstlerinnen und Künstlern ab 50 Jahren, deren Arbeiten in den vergangenen Jahren – mangels geräumiger Ausstellungslokalitäten – hier vor Ort selten gezeigt wurden, die aber schon über einen langen Zeitraum kontinuierlich in Köln tätig sind. In Kölner Ateliers erfolgt eine künstlerische Produktion hoher Qualität und großer medialer Spannbreite, die mitunter überregional wie international mehr Resonanz erfährt als in der Stadt ihres Entstehens. Das Projekt soll deshalb gezielt Kölner Künstler/innen erneut ein Podium verschaffen, das ihre Wahrnehmung in der Öffentlichkeit wieder stärkt und dem hiesigen Publikum Gelegenheit gibt, weniger bekannte oder unterrepräsentierte Positionen neu zu entdecken.
Ein achtköpfiger Beirat, besetzt durch Astrid Bardenheuer (Leiterin artothek), Friedhelm Falke (Künstler und Kurator), Gérard Goodrow (Kunsthistoriker, Autor und freier Kurator), Fabian Hochscheid (Vorsitzender des Kulturwerks des Bundesverbandes Bildender Künstler Köln e.V.), Dr. Michael Krajewski (Kunsthistoriker, Kurator und Kunstkritiker), Birgit Laskowski (Kunstvermittlerin und freie Kuratorin) Nadine Müseler (Referentin für Bildende Kunst, Literatur und Neue Medien im Kulturamt der Stadt Köln) sowie Linda Nadji (Künstlerin und Kuratorin) wählt jährlich eine oder zwei Position/en aus und lädt diese zu einer 6wöchigen Ausstellung in der Michael Horbach Stiftung ein.
Initiativbewerbungen sind willkommen. Prinzipiell kann sich jede/r Interessierte der Altersgruppe ab 50 Jahren für eine Ausstellung bewerben. Bedingung ist, dass die/der Betreffende seit mindestens zehn Jahren in Köln ansässig, lokal verankert sowie kontinuierlich sowie anhaltend künstlerisch tätig ist und dass es sich um ein „Update“ handelt, d. h. die vorgestellten Arbeiten nicht schon jüngst in Köln präsentiert wurden. Die/der eingeladene Künstler/in erhält ein Honorar und einen Produktionskosten-Zuschuss; zur Dokumentation der Ausstellung wird eine Broschüre publiziert.
Im Jahr 2023 wird keine öffentliche Ausschreibung für Update Cologne #07 erfolgen. Für die Ausstellung im Jahr 2024 wurde die Künstlerin Victoria Bell nominiert (siehe bitte Startseite). Die Ausstellung Update Cologne #08 in 2025 wird voraussichtlich wieder nach dem üblichen Modus offen ausgeschrieben. Informationen finden Sie ab Frühjahr 2024 hier auf der Website.
Application & Selection procedure
The Update Cologne exhibition series is dedicated in particular to Cologne artists aged 50 and over whose work has rarely been shown here in recent years - due to a lack of spacious exhibition venues - but who have been working continuously in Cologne for a long time. High-quality artistic production with a wide range of media takes place in Cologne studios, which sometimes receives more resonance both nationally and internationally than in the city where it was created. The project therefore aims to provide Cologne artists with a podium that will once again strengthen their public perception and give the local public the opportunity to rediscover lesser-known or underrepresented positions.
An eight-member advisory board, composed of Astrid Bardenheuer (director of artothek), Friedhelm Falke (artist and curator), Gérard Goodrow (art historian, author and freelance curator), Fabian Hochscheid (chairman of the Kulturwerk of the Bundesverband Bildender Künstler Köln e.V.), Dr. Michael Krajewski (art historian, curator and art critic), Birgit Laskowski (art mediator and freelance curator) Nadine Müseler (consultant for visual arts, literature and new media at the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne) as well as Linda Nadji (artist and curator) select one or two position/s each year and invite them to a 6-week exhibition at the Michael Horbach Foundation.
Unsolicited applications are welcome. In principle, any interested person in the age group of 50 and older can apply for an exhibition. It is a condition that the person concerned has been resident in Cologne for at least ten years, is locally anchored and continuously and persistently artistically active, and that the exhibition is an "update", i.e. the works presented have not already been recently presented in Cologne. The invited artist will receive a fee and a production cost subsidy; a brochure will be published to document the exhibition.
There will be no public call for entries for Update Cologne #07 in 2023. For the exhibition in 2024, the artist Victoria Bell has been nominated (please see home page). The exhibition Update Cologne #08 in 2025 will probably be openly tendered again according to the usual mode. Information will be available here on the website from spring 2024.
